Where Not to Install a Bat House

• The last place you want to put your bat house is in a tree. *

• Avoid brightly lit areas or shiny surfaces

• Do not install above doors, window, vents or walkways

• Near burn barrels

• In windswept areas

• Do not place in a shaded location

• Do not hang on an active service pole

• Bats rarely use boxes mounted to metal buildings

 

*Mounting the house on a tree is a poor choice. We wouldn’t want to damage the tree by hanging the house on it using screw, nails or wire. Then the tree itself could hinder your success by providing too much shade, blocking access to the house and allowing predators access to the house.
