Moving a Bat House

Hopefully, the bat house location you have chosen has worked out well for you and the bats. Unfortunately, the reality is that there will be times when the bat house must be relocated. Should you find that the location of the bat house isn’t ideal a successful bat house, one well established for at least two summers can be moved several hundred feet to a similar sunny location without the bats abandoning it.  If the bat house is moved during the first year the bats may abandon the box.   Some species of bats, such as big browns, may temporarily abandon the house but will usually return.

Never try to move an occupied bat box. It is best to wait until the winter when the box is empty to move it.
